Update on COVID-19

Center closed; Identity available via phone and email

July 30, 2020

Due to increased cases of COVID-19 in Alaska, Identity’s Community Center remains closed to the public for in-person meetings and gatherings. Support groups continue to meet online.

A few staff are able to safely come into the office, and Identity is available via phone and email for resources and information. Please contact us at (907) 929-4528 and info@identityinc.org.

We will reopen the Center when safe to do so. At that time, we will need PPE items. If you would like to donate PPE to Identity, please see our wish list below.

Thank you for your patience and support!

PPE Needed

July 20, 2020

Identity is working to re-open our Community Center to the public. We have received some personal protective equipment (PPE) items and will need more to keep staff, volunteers, and community members safe during this pandemic.

PPE items needed include:

  • Cloth face masks
  • Material to make cloth face masks: 100% cotton woven (v. knit) fabric, 1/4in elastic, medium weight iron on interfacing and 45” shoe laces which make ties.
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Disposable face masks
  • Clorox disinfecting wipes
  • Disposable gloves
  • Antibacterial hand soap

To donate and to make arrangements to drop items off, please contact us at info@identityinc.org or call us at (907) 929-4528.

Thank you for your support.

Center Closed and Groups Meeting Online

May 29, 2020 — While the State of Alaska and Municipality of Anchorage have begun easing coronavirus-related restrictions, under an abundance of caution, Identity will continue to keep its Community Center and offices closed to the public at this time.

Identity’s board of directors is working on its reopening plan, adhering to the protocols deemed safe by the CDC and local health officials. Adjustments will need to be made to operations based on the data.

When Identity reopens, staff and volunteers will be wearing masks and visitors may be requested to wear masks as well.

  • All peer facilitated social and support groups in-person meetings are postponed.
  • Zoom meetings are still available for several support groups. Check out the event calendar for details.

To our funders… please know that we are responding to this pandemic by following best practices of social distancing. We will continue our work within the guidelines, expectations, and deliverables of our grants. We expect we will not be the only ones adjusting timelines and shifting expectations with our work. The health and safety of our already vulnerable population is at stake. We will remain flexible and hopeful as the situation unfolds.

There is one event that will not be affected by social distancing:  Give Out Day.  Give Out Day is a national day of giving to LGBTQ+ Centers.  It’s a virtual event.  And this year, it’s more important than ever to Identity, Inc. because our event revenue, which we depend on to stay open, is likely to be affected.  Please mark your calendars for June 30, 2020.

The health and safety of our community is our highest priority. Thank you for your flexibility and resilience. It is the hallmark of our LGBTQ+ community. We will get through this together. If you feel moved to support our efforts and to bolster our resources, please make a donation to Identity, Inc. here.

Sincerely,

Identity’s Board of Directors
