You’ll explore terminology, discover ways to show up for the LGBTQ+ community, share stories, and ask questions. All who seek to advance the LGBTQ+ communities of Alaska are welcome. Start your path to allyship. Deepen your impact.
LGBTQ+ Liberation in the Workplace
This 1 to 2-hour workshop introduces terms and concepts of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE). Together, we’ll build shared understandings so we can create more LGBTQ+ equity where we work. Participants have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss LGBTQ+ terminology, and assess dynamics of LGBTQ+ oppression in professional settings.
Queer Affirming and Gender Affirming Healthcare
Many LGBTQ+ people report negative experiences and fears about “coming out” or sharing information about their gender identity and sexuality with their healthcare providers. This 4-hour workshop offers providers and support staff tools and information to better understand gender and sexuality concepts and spectrums, develop awareness of intrinsic bias, meet the client where they are at, use terminology the client is using, and to provide better care for LGBTQ+ clients.
SOGIE Handbook: Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression Affirming Approach and Expansive Practices, written by Kiku Johnson, Associate Director, One Circle Foundation (2019)
Identity operates in the country of the United States of America, which was built on stolen land with stolen labor. We acknowledge that this debt has not been paid, and this truth must be centered in our work to advance the LGBTQ+ community of Alaska. Identity resides on unceded Dena’ina land in Anchorage, and we serve people who live across these indigenous lands that we refer to as Alaska. We recognize the stewardship, voices and value of Indigenous peoples past, present and future.
